"God, use me to build Your Church
and help me to wholeheartedly serve You through it."
Park Avenue Campaign--Pray 1,000,000x
After many hours of planning, praying, studying, and listening we have determined that instead of launching a new and improved third round of fund-raising, we will focus our attention on prayer to God.
Instead of gearing up and asking for money to see how quickly we can raise the next million dollars, we'll raise the bar even further, and ask you to pray on 1 million occasions.
We believe this focus on prayer rather than fund-raising will help us in many ways.
- It will serve as an encouragement to pray frequently for the church
- It will help keep each of us spiritually connected to our Head, Jesus Christ
- It will equally include people of all ages and income levels
- It will encourage more participation than merely fund-raising
This may appear risky to some. We do have a large mortgage to pay off and a lot more building to build. If we focus on prayer instead of giving, we may not get as much money as before and it may take longer to reach our financial goals.
But, then again, God is the Owner of everything. He is the Giver of all good things. He is the one who is able to do more than we could ask or think.
Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. Ephesians 3:20-21
We're not suggesting a million prayers because God is hard of hearing but because we are apt to forget to ask. It isn't to convince Him of our worthiness, but to simply reflect our sincerity.
We want to make keeping track of the number of prayers as simple as possible and not let it be a distraction form the real goal. The goal is not one million prayers. One million prayers is more of a tool than a goal. The goal is to gain the mind of Christ, to grow closer in our relationship with Him, and to be in step with Him during this entire building process.
We encourage each of you to keep track of your occasions to pray for the church. Some of you may want to use one of our tally cards to check off each time you pray. When the card is full you can either place it anonymously in the offering plate, email the total to parkaveupdates@eabcministries.com or use the tear off portion of the bulletin.
Author Jerry Sittser sees persistence through the eyes of a parent. "My kids have asked me for many things through the years. I ignore them most of the time. I am as hardhearted as they come, a parent made of granite. My ears perk up, however, when they persist, because persistence usually means they are serious about something."
Let's be serious about building a church. A million prayers should be enough to keep us moving in the right direction.
"Prayer does not equip us for the greater work, Prayer is the greater work." --Oswald Chambers
